What is Massage Therapy and Bodywork?
Massage Therapy encourages the parasympathetic nervous system to function in order to
encourage natural healing. Many people due to pain and hectic lifestyles function in the "fight or
flight" (sympathetic nervous system) mode. This fatigues muscles and weakens the immune
system. Healing cannot occur as well or as quickly in this state.

Massage Therapy increases circulation to 3 - 4 times the normal rate and releases endorphins
and enkephalins, the body's natural "feel good" hormones. Massage helps to diminish scars/scar
tissue, and it is beneficial for women in all stages of pregnacy. Specific diseases and disorders
that benefit greatly from Massage Therapy are fibromayalgia, Parkinson's, ALS, TMJD, Thoracic
Outlet Syndrome and neuralgia. Stress reduction, relief from muscular pain and spasms all result
from Masage Therapy.

Persons with uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood clots, history of blood clots or circulatory
problems, as well as those being treated with blood thinners, should consult their physician before
receiving Massage Therapy.
