Adam Maynard, Professional Ballroom Teacher and Dancer and Chief Music Editer |
Always having a passion for the arts and creativity, Adam Maynard began his artistic career as a musician at age twelve. That experience in the school choir was followed by his taking up the string bass a year later and the guitar shortly after that. His high school years were spent making music and skateboarding, the latter of which was, perhaps, his first introduction to creative movement. Adam earned his bachelor's degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University. During the college years his passion for the performing arts deepened as he was exposed to modern dance, Laban Movement Analysis, and conducting. He also took a year off from college to tour as a musician playing the double bass with acoustic band, Coincidence Maybe across the southern and eastern United States. On a break from touring Adam first stepped into a Fred Astaire Dance studio and discovered another creative outlet. From the first lesson, he was hooked. At the urging of his teacher, he began dance teacher training and then taught dance part-time as he finished his college degree and music teacher certification. Today Adam performs with the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra and keeps his ties with the musical community, but his artistic and creative energies have focused on ballroom teaching and performing. Adam now uses his music and dance background to create unique music medlies and cuts for Showcases and Performances. Adam has competed Professionally since 2002. He has competed in American Rhythm, International Standard and most recently American Smooth. Adam began his professional partnership with Rachel Nace Maynard in 2009. Since then they have been winning Fred Astaire Regional Titles in American Smooth and have been Rising Star Champions and Finalists in many competitions. Adam and Rachel have had the opportunity to work with such coaches as David Hamilton, Olga Foraponova, Cher Rutherford, Chantel LeClerc, Bill Sparks, Jonathan Roberts, Gene LaPierre, Nancy Brown, and Larry May as well as others. Adam specializes in coaching, competition preparation and preparation of teachers as well as music editing. Adam enjoys getting to know his students and making them their very best. If for a night on the town or on the competition floor, Adam gets his students comfortable with the movements and the patterns so they can have fun and look amazing too! |
